TRUTH?

I was quite surprised to see that a 'doctor of the church' ( St. Teresa of Avila) mentions the SELF almost in a New Agey manner..hmmm..would love to hear from a priest ..on this subject..OR someone who is as surprised as I am..feel free to comment..would appreciate it..Thanks !
